The Last Firefly...

One thing I absolutely  loved about The Last Firefly is watching the progression of the characters. We first meet Chris, Luke and Camille as teenagers; later when we meet them again, they're in their 30's. The world around them has changed and life may or may not have turned out the way they expected it to.

Audiobook listeners have their say..

"A romance that will melt your heart."

A nice sweet, sexy story. I loved the bond between the characters and watching the relationships grow. The narration was well done too. Sydney's writing was lyrical. After reading this I would like to visit Seoul and find my own Wen."

What made the experience of listening to My Heart In Seoul Boxed Set the most enjoyable?

"I read the book when it first came out and was happy when I found the audio-book. The author has such a way with words that puts the reader right in the story. The narrator did a good job too."

What about Elizabeth Redmond’s performance did you like?

"Redmond's Korean dialect was spot on. loved it. A nice little romance packed with romance and sensuality. Hope Ms. Arrison will do a book three featuring these characters. Loved it!"

Readers questions..( Top 10 post from 2017)

The following questions were asked by avid reader Gillian V. Thanks so much for contacting me, I really enjoyed reading and answering your questions. If you have a question or two..Please send to:
  • You are given the opportunity to meet one of the following, who would you choose? Someone guaranteed to have meaningful conversations with or someone guaranteed to have amazing physical connections with?  Meaningful conversation, the conversation may have a lasting impact on my life and I may learn something new.
  • Would you rather join a book club or an adventure club? Adventure club sounds more exciting.
  • What  do you do to relax?  Read poetry, listen to music, and most of all go biking. It's one of the most peaceful things you can do. I have a very beautiful trail that goes around a lake and the view is just lovely. So not only do you get a good workout, but you also get out into the fresh air and just enjoy the tranquility. It gives me time to  clear my head and think, not only about writing, but also about life.
  •  What's your dream vacation?  I would love to visit the Jeju Island.

Your place..

Elvis and Joe are great together. I really liked this book, but I think it would have been even better if Joe Pike was featured more. He has become one of my favorite characters.

" It seemed like a simple case—before the bodies started piling up...
When single-mother Devon Connor hires Elvis Cole, it’s because her troubled teenage son Tyson is flashing cash and she’s afraid he’s dealing drugs. But the truth is devastatingly different. With two others, he’s been responsible for a string of high-end burglaries, a crime spree that takes a deadly turn when one of them is murdered and Tyson and his girlfriend disappear.

They stole the wrong thing from the wrong man, and, determined to get it back, he has hired two men who are smart and brutal and the best at what they do.

To even the odds, Cole brings in his friend Joe Pike, but even the two of them together may be overmatched. The police don’t want them anywhere near the investigation, the teenagers refuse to be found, and the hired killers are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. Pretty soon, they’ll find out everything they need to know to track the kids down—and then nothing that Elvis or Joe can do may make any difference. It might even get them killed."

"Whenever you call."

Most e-mailed post of 2017..

I was amidst a tumultuous life and thought a stroll through the park would do me good. I was hopeful, but was soon led down a path I couldn’t escape. A need for something frivolous and fun soon turned into a story entirely different. Romance would always be present and a significant force, along with humor, friendship, family and friends, but the unexpected; the unpredictable inevitably came into view.
I looked at trends occurring in certain genres and thought I would take a dive (no pun intended). I discovered I can’t write formulaically. It’s seemingly impossible for me to compose, solely to fit a category. I had every intention of doing so and then it happened; light turned to darkness, up went down and sex turned to love.
I enjoy being surprised, but only when it’s flowers, candy and anything that puts a smile on my face. Unanticipated turmoil and upheaval is what I like to avoid. Unfortunately, it eventually faces everyone head on. Brooklyn’s Song was a steel trap for everything. That’s life.
Well, I’m sure all that goes on in Brooklyn’s Song is not in everyone’s life; certain aspects perhaps, but I’m confident and hopeful readers will never experience the more intense and serious components that exist. If you enjoy roller-coaster rides, I think you’ll have a good time. Remember, it’s only a ride.
Brooklyn’s Song is not an extremely long book and I am very cognizant of pacing.  Things start to happen early on in the book that I hope will make it difficult to stop reading. I did my best to make the experience for readers balanced; including everything that generally is part of everyone’s life: humor, love, sex, work, play, fun and then some. However, the books I enjoy the most will take me places out of the ordinary whether it’s dark, scary, mysterious, elating, sad or otherwise, as long as it’s something I wouldn’t normally encounter.
I really enjoy creating strong, intelligent female characters. I'm an avid reader and I'm not a fan of women who need men to rescue them.  Brooklyn Peirce, one of the main character’s from "Brooklyn's Song", is far from a damsel in distress. She’s very resourceful, independent and determined. Brooklyn is also beautiful, sensitive, empathetic and humble.
Detective Song Kai, the hero of the story, is compassionate, morally centered, sexy….And broken. Tragedy and loss took him out of the game and deep into his work. It also brought him to Brooklyn. It was an instant attraction for obvious reasons. What unified them was painful and heartbreaking; thus begins the story that you never expected.
I hope readers enjoy “Brooklyn’s Song” as much as I did writing it. As an independent author, it’s sometimes difficult to reach everyone and convince them to take a chance on an author that is relatively unknown. The book is available on Amazon and has been well received.  “Everything you want in a good mystery romance story. This was such a good story to sink your teeth into and just simply enjoy.”
This is a well written thought out story with a little something for everyone.”
“So damn good. The author skillfully takes you through suspense, humor, romance and thrills. An incredible read.”

‘Bomb Cyclone’ ( blizzard of 2018)

If you live on the East coast like me, you get used to the snow and the cold, but the "Bomb Cyclone" is supposed to be the mother of all storms. All the schools and businesses are closed. It's going to be record cold with blizzard conditions tomorrow. Stay warm, stay safe and stay inside if you can. I'm sending a little warmth to all my fellow east-coasters. Hang in there.

Favorite book of 2017 💝

The Long and Faraway Gone
Sometimes you read a book that has a profound impact on you; such is the case with "The Long and Faraway Gone." The story was beautifully written, haunting and heartbreaking. Sometimes, no matter how far we travel, the past still finds a way of catching up to us. Traces of the pain we've endured still remain. I really hope this book is adapted into a screenplay; the cinematic possibilities are awesome.

The big freeze..

It's only 2 degrees outside...It's a good day to stay inside near the fireplace, grab a nice hot cup of cocoa and a good book. It really is too cold for "man or beast." The weather forecast in New York calls for more temperatures below freezing for the next few days.. Yikes! Now would be a good time to take that Honolulu vacation that I'm dreaming of... I checked it's in the 70's there.🌞

Every single day..

Favorite movie/ series of 2017 💝

  • Mudbound-"Two men return home from World War II to work on a farm in rural Mississippi, where they struggle to deal with racism and adjusting to life after war."  I think the performances by Garrett Hedlund, Rob Morgan, Jonathan Banks, Mary J. Blige and Jason Mitchell made this film shine. I love a film with a good narrator.
  • Okja- "Meet Mija, a young girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend - a fascinating animal named Okja."  Visually this film is pretty amazing. I'm an animal lover so I really liked the plot. Tilda Swinton, Seo-hyun Ahn, Jake Gyllenhaal ( Like you've never seen him before)  and Paul Dano  delivered  superb performances.
  • Mr. Mercedes-"Tells the story of a psychopathic killer who drives a stolen Mercedes into a crowd and a recently retired detective who tries to bring him down."  I love a good detective, mystery and this series didn't disappoint.
Brendan Gleeson, Kelly Lynch and Harry Treadaway made this series worth watching.

The holiday season doesn't feel complete without watching "It's A Wonderful Life." I adore the balcony scene with the moon. They just don't make them like this anymore...I love the classics.
